    ReplyDelete

  26. Oooooo... 51 comments! Now I feel like saying “FIRST POST FIRST POST!”

I’ll make it a point to watch The Name of the Rose when it next comes on TV. Sean Connery and Christian Slater, if memory serves me right. Interestingly enough, I read the book again just last month!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Let's hear it! :)

  32. OK, I really couldn't resist. me, sir?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Toughest of the lot. What do you recommend to a professional movie reviewer? Hmm. Arsenic and Old Lace, perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Difficult with you having been out of action for so long. Still, I'd say Sleepy Hollow

    ReplyDelete
  35. My first choice would be When Harry Met Sally. However, since I think you might have seen it, I recommend Terms of Endearmnent.

Then again, you might have watched that too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hmm. You could try out Peter's Friends. Let me know if you like it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tough since I don't know you at all - you don't write in your journal! So I'll play safe and suggest Poochakkoru Mookkuthi

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hmm. If you can get it, try I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. If you can't, try the book.

    ReplyDelete
  39. But I know you haven't seen All About Eve!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Woops, sorry, no 'The' over there.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Of course. Desadanakkili Karayarilla.

Funny how most of my Malayalam movie recos have been Padmarajan films. Hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks :)*makes a note to get that for the weekend*

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yup, Connery and Slater. Not a great movie mind you, but it does have its moments. A bit tongue-in-cheek at times, like the book.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hehe. I actually tried to guess what you might guess, and yes, Sleepy Hollow was one of them - brilliant stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Heh heh. Ok then, try M.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eat Drink Man Woman ?

  47. And I am going back to Delhi. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey, thanks. I hadn't heard of that film till now. Seeing it's Chinese, I just hope they don't start flying around treetops.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is this thread dead yet? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh! That's too bad, we haven't met up after your marriage. Good luck anyway!

And for some reason, I feel you'll like The Eagle Has Landed.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well..I have seen the movie and read the book. One more, please.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Damn. I was hoping you wouldn't show up. Just for that, you get Pink Flamingos.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But you did like it, didn't you? Ok, if you insist, watch Sideways, if you haven't yet.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Doesn't memory serve you right always?

    ReplyDelete
  55. *grin* the ultimate Aunts Aren't Gentlemen film, eh? :D Lovely watch.

    Great try, but try again?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Heh heh. I'm getting to know you better now.

    How about El Topo?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hahaha. Serves him right.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You knew this was coming - Iruvar.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ah, thank you. The only Steinbeck I have read is "To a God Unknown". Always wanted to read The Grapes of Wrath.

But this intrigues me. Why this one? :-)

And, the movie first or the book?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Either way is fine, really. I did the book and then the movie. Maybe you could try the other way round - might enjoy it a bit more. Only thing is, you might want to watch the movie again after reading the book!

Why this one? Heh heh. Watch it, Arun.

    ReplyDelete
  61. meekly raises hand from the bleachers

    ReplyDelete
  62. ooooh!!! :D
    niiiice.

bingo, sir, I haven't seen this!!

now the bigger question is: how do I find it?
    *scratches head*

    ReplyDelete
  63. No, I didn't; I was expecting an honest recommendation. I told you I have seen Iruvar more than twice.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh, did you? Did you like it? Sorry, I forget what you told me.

Have you seen Oru Katha, Oru Nunakkatha?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ahem. I'll see if I can help with that. Will let you know.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yeah, I liked it.

I am sure I have seen OKON, but can't remember any details. I'll rent it.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nope. Have not seen it. Now tell me why

    ReplyDelete
  68. "Chaudhvin ka Chand Ho..." should jog your memory. If it doesn't, then yeah, you should rent it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sorry, that's not how it works. Do let me know if you see it and like it, though.

    PS: I loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. If I remember, I think its Taiwanese...

    ReplyDelete
  71. I kind of have an idea why, or at least a gut feel :-), but i will catch the movie if i can find the movie someplace. The book of course should be easier to find!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yeah, I liked it.

    What's this world coming to?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ooh, sounds good. Will try to find this.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oovey, ningalkku jwalikal onnumilley?

Umm, no; not always. Maybe I’m growing old.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oh, alright. Watch Where's Poppa instead.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thanks! If I am not mistaken, I think I've watched it, but I'd love to watch it again.

  84. ...and one for me too?!!

I just came back from Eluru, and this post made a good read. Interesting suggestions. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  85. this sounds interesting:)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thank you sir!! This definitely seems to be my type of movie. Hope to get my hands on it before the week runs out :-)

    ReplyDelete
  87. What a shameless plug...oh, ok, me.

btw, do you know you have an extremely strange icon? It looks like Darth Vader wielding an ice-pick like a gunsight. No doubt, in some Humpty-Dumptian universe, all of this makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  88. >Maybe I’m growing old.

Life sucks and then you die in the rain. Or so Hemingway said. Of course, he spent his life on tropical beaches, the weasel.

    ReplyDelete
  89. What on earth about the Name of the Rose do you think will apply to an IIM grad? The paranoia? The murderous intent towards one's colleagues? The hoarding of unique knowledge to one's own self?

Oh. Wait...You're right. I hate you.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Battle Royale for you, buddy boy.

The icon is actually a crop from a Philips ad featuring Vader.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hey, I don't remember seeing this thread...

    Mere liye???

    ReplyDelete
  92. Funny, I could have sworn I had recommended something for you. Anyway, do try out Peckinpah's Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia, if you haven't watched it already.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Won't be able to do it for a week, but wotthehell, gimme one too!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I *completely* missed this post. And now I DEMAND a movie....altho it is LATE.

    And me movie is....?

    ReplyDelete
  95. O yes! Loved that movie. *makes mental note to look for DVD for personal collection*

    Gimme another...

    ReplyDelete
  96. Hmm. Then you must have seen Donnie Darko also?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Don't remember that one.. So, now that you have named it, please to tell where I can find it in Bangalore??

    ReplyDelete
  98. I can get you the divx if you like. You'll need to wait a few weeks, though.
