Well, no. Time is certainly not a human invention, but units of time are. ;)
I don't consider any of these "new beginnings" to be significant, but much of the human populace apparently does. For example, I made a resolution to lose weight and get in shape within 6 months, but I did that last month, not waiting for the New Year to come around :)
