Steve Waugh to retire

The last I felt like this was when RD Burman died. One of my favorite cricketers, easily the batsman I'd pick to bat for my life.

Lovely piece by Waugh on rediff, brought back a lot of memories.

  1. I love the guy.He has no airs about himself atall! He's the brand ambassador for AMP Sanmar, and when he'd come to release a new product,i'd done an interview. He's so unassuming, and unlike other celebrities at press conferences,he had lunch with all of us!Everyone was hovering around him,but he didn't seem to mind!He even posed for tons of pictures and signed autographs amidst lunch!

  2. Why the hell didn't he stick to India 2004 as his plan? :-(
Probably because the selectors told him he had no chance, what with the Michael Clarkes coming up....

    And by the way...

... the batsman I'd pick to bat for my life
Michael Bevan for me by far. Steve Waugh second, Rahul Dravid third.

  3. When the chips are down, Waugh is the one I'd pick way above Bevan or Dravid. Not that the aussies have had to bat their way out of a crisis all that often, these days.
