Hypocrites, all

We are a nation of hypocrites. We leer at the scantily clad lasses on music videos but want our wives and girlfriends to be pristine and pure. We don't think twice before paying off the cop who flags us down on the road, but we are always indignant when we read about corrupt officials and politicians. We want our cricket team to be the best in the world but believe it's okay to have a physically and mentally unfit captain. We believe it's good to be honest but a little corrupt, devout but a little fanatic, chaste but get a little on the side.

We even have people who shut down their journals and then come back, all righteous and condescending. Some folks can't make up their mind.

I have a problem with the 'pristine and pure' part as well. I don't see why people assume that you're 'showing' all the skin that you're showing because you want someone to look (and that's why you're un-pristine and impure). I might *happen to show* the skin that I'm showing because *I don't want it covered* -- THAT might be the reason you're getting to see it. I might be more comfortable not covering all of myself up when it's 45C outside.

Basically, if YOU take anything I do as an excuse to act like a horny bastard, it doesn't make ME a slut.

  3. *waves up at the lofty man on a high horse* ;)

Good to see you back. :)

Jokes apart, I have long come to the conclusion that most humans need hypocrisy to get by. Brutal honesty about oneself is not everyone's cup of tea.

  5. It was directed at you or anything. I just meant that as if the hypocrisy of expecting women to dress like sati-savitris wasn't enough, it's all these assumptions about why women do things that they do, that tick me off.

  14. Czeslaw Milosz - In Black Despair

In grayish doubt and black despair,
I drafted hymns to the earth and the air,
pretending to joy, although I lacked it.
The age had made lament redundant.

So here's the question -- who can answer it --
Was he a brave man or a hypocrite?
