  1. You really should watch Fiddler on the Roof. Lots of mad East Europeans running around and shouting a lot.
Searching for Bobby Fischer should be a lot higher up, imo. I thought it was really good. If Shane is inspirational, then "Once Upon a Time in the WEst" should be on that list, for *exactly* the same reasons.

  2. Um..Shane was inspirational for the lone cowboy coming in and kicking everyone's ass, being a hero to that boy, etc. Was ole Harmonica that inspirational? Brilliant movie of course, but I'm not sure I was inspired by it.

Ramesh Sippy, on the other hand, definitely was ;)

  3. I'd like to meet the chaps who were inspired by Forrest Gump and Star Wars.

  4. The list doesn't have:

    1) Almost Famous
    2) Finding Forrester
    3) Goodwill Hunting

And that's just three that I think should be on that list...

  5. I wasn't thinking about the Hero to boys angle at all. The theme of both movies is very similar- rugged gunslingers following the Code of the West, fading into history and gracefuly (in the case of Shane, not so with Jack Palance's character) handing over to settlers with the Protestant Work Ethic build America. The point being that both movies reiterate stirring myths of How American was built. Nostalgia *and* patriotism. That sort of thing.

Ramesh Sippy, definitely. I've always wanted to be evil and Gabbar Singh just fired that ambition.
