Mobile pain

Bought an Ericsson cell phone for Sindha yesterday. Plan to go in for a scheme where she can call and receive calls from my number for free, and I need pay just Rs 75 a month to call up any Airtel number. The salesman from Airtel didn't turn up today though...

My neck and shoulders have been aching like crazy for over a week now. Trying all kinds of exercises. Maybe its my posture, maybe its driving, maybe its using the mouse too much. Maybe I need a massage.

(now why am I reminded of Pulp Fiction ? )

  1. Try Powergesic MR.
    Along with the massage.

  3. The MR stands for muscle relaxant, or so my wife tells me.
    It works for me.

  4. Whoa whoa whoa! Be careful before you take muscle relaxants. Unless you have a muscle tear or injury (something that I'm just recovering from), I'd ask the doctor first.

If all you have is a little muscle soreness (and I know exactly what you're feeling Madhav), try some over-the-counter analgesic like Combiflam for the pain.

People like us who spend hours staring at a PC screen have these problems.
    1) Make sure that you're sitting upright in your chair. If you don't have a decent chair that comes up to your neck at least, go slap your CEO for being negligent of his people ;)

    2) Check to see what position your neck is in while you're typing. Try it when you're typing out some functional specs, for example ;)
I can bet that you'll be leaning forward (straining your back) and your neck isn't straight. Your shoulders are probably hunched too.

    3) If your company has a gym (goodie!), take some light weights and do shoulder strengthening exercises. Let me know if you need some help with them.

    4) Yes, a proper massage will do you good too. For best results, enlist a member of the opposite sex for this.

  6. Indeed, it most likely is.

After some Googling (that's now an accepted verb, it seems), I found some useful info:

  7. I just get the feeling that the pain has been transferred from the shoulders, Madhav.
