Just remembered a few more movies I've watched and enjoyed multiple times on the screen:
- Roja
- Bombay
- My Dear Kuttichathan
I think there is a simple reason why there aren't any English movies in the list, apart from the Star Wars series. Eng movies don't run for long in theatres. And Star Wars was a reissue.
Kuttichathan? I'm surprised! All ears (eyes?) to know the reason behind your choice...
ReplyDeleteI like 'Roja' and 'Bombay', but I think Mani excelled himself in 'Nayakan'. I'm yet to see 'Kannathil...'. The cassettes are not available here yet :-(
The first time I saw MDK was when I was a kid, and was of course bowled over by the special effects. The second - and last - time I saw it was just after marriage. So it carries a special significance - first post-marriage movie.

ReplyDeleteReminds me of another Kamal movie - 'Guna', which Malayala Manorama promptly printed in their cinema listing as "Gunda". Try to visualize the subtle difference between the Malaylam letters "na" and "nda" (in 'Guna' and 'Gunda' respectively)...
Btw, yesterday's (12th March) Deepika has an article about a wig-maker from Hollywood who is now visiting God's Own Country. Checkout the article titled "Keralam Daivathinte Swantham Naadu Thanney: Fletcher" here. The 6th para says that this chap has worked in movies like "Max of Zorro" and "Back to Feature" ;)
Oolan & myself tried to recollect other bloomers by Manorama, but couldn't get past "Germintaor" and "My dear Martha and Anne" ('Terminator' and 'My dear Marthandan' respectively). Anyone remembers more?

ReplyDeleteThere were quite a few. I remember turning to the movies section in Manorama every day, just to get a good laugh out of the titles. But I cant remember any of the misspelt names now...
ReplyDeleteOn another note, does anyone remember when an unknown genius had painted black a few letters on the board: "TRIVANDRUM PUBLIC LIBRARY" ? The word 'LIBRARY' was altered so that L,I and the first R were completely erased. The bottom curve of the B was also erased, turning it into a P. The artist had done something similar on the malayalam board too. This was not corrected for at least a couple of weeks, leading to much merriment among the passers-by at Palayam.
I'm not joking. I saw this with my own eyes.
