Kichan cleared the mains exam of the civil services, surprising everyone and making all of us very proud. The final stage, the interview, is on April 10. Went out a few days back and bought him clothes to wear for the interview. A pink shirt, red tie, black trousers and brown shoes is what he is going to wear, in spite of his brother & sister-in-law's advice to look sober and serious. Apparently, he wants to be himself. It has worked so far, it should work in the interview as well. Insha Allah.
The baby is extremely active and kicks his/her mom at every opportunity. Sindha says her insides must be black and blue by now. I can also feel the movements very clearly, its as though the kid is practising karate inside. Or maybe trying to bend it like Beckham. Sounds like its more of Sindha's kid than mine. But then it appears to be hungry all the time, so maybe its got quite a bit of me too.
Gave the Palio for its first service today. The dealer I bought the car from - Manx Auto - had closed down, as predicted. Sundaram - the other dealer - will service the car, but they will also charge me for it. I'm supposed to take the bill and the warranty coupon, go to Manx and convince them to reimburse me. Great. On the positive side, the car hasn't given me any trouble so far. Its a great drive and the mileage isn't all that bad - I get about 11 to 12 km in the city, without a/c.
Stephen King's Everything's Eventual sucks. Kichan tells me From a Buick Eight sucks worse. My next book is most likely to be Llosa's Feast of the Goat or Gunter Grass' Tin Drum. Yum !
Played Serious Sam - the Second Encounter on Saturday. Went to the second level after vanquishing the Mayan firegod, Whatshisname. Sam rocks. However I don't like the jumping around and clicking on levers stuff thats been added in the second part. The first episode was a pure shoot-em-up. One of my all time favourite games.
Whats a good program to convert mp3s into .cda format ? I was thinking of burning audio cds from my mp3 collection. Tried out some shareware stuff from the net, didn't like it very much.
Whats a good program to convert mp3s into .cda format ?
ReplyDeletebasically, u want programs that convert mp3s to .wav. (The .cda format is not exactly a format at all, it's just the way Windows chooses to interpret the tracks on a cd.)
Easy-cd creator 4.0+ has an audio-cd creation option directly from mp3s. You just drag and drop mp3 files (it detects mp3 files as "sound" files)and then burn the cd. the only drawback is, it's unreliable for some bitrates, especially VBR encoded mp3s.
so use some freeware program like CDEX which converts mp3s to wav first and THEN go for Easy cd creator to burn audio cds.
Oh, thanks a bunch ! I was confused about the wav/cda thingy too. Will try out what you suggested
ReplyDeleteUse Nero. No conversion shit. Make your list of mp3s and burn!
ReplyDeleteActually, I forgot to leave my name there. There wasn't any intention to remain anonymous.
ReplyDeleteLets hear it from your mouth anyway :)
> The baby is extremely active and kicks his/her mom at every opportunity
ReplyDeleteoooh my uterus skipped a couple of beats reading that.
PS- i've a pair of size 0 pink nike trainers that i bought at a pathetic moment (coz it was sooo cute and it was 60% off)that i'll give your baby if its a girl. the size would fit a boy too but i think the colour will just mess his mind up :)
Umm, I skipped Nero because I never used it....if u already have directcd or Easy cd installed on your system, be warned! Nero has some bugs running with those software present, in particular DirectCD.
ReplyDeleteI already had read most of the short stories in Everything's Eventual, the ebooksonus.com site used to have a major collection of King short stories once upon a time, even before nost of them were published as "EiE". not too bad, not too good either....

ReplyDeleteHow about a hat trick??
the pose as well???
ReplyDeleteer..what pose ? Not sure if I understood you, but check out any of The Saint books, by Leslie Charteris. The saint figure appears in this pose. There's one more with arms akimbo I think...
ReplyDeleteGood for ya, Mahavouooo....
ReplyDeleteMahavouooo..sounds like a wolf cry. Might have helped if you'd left your name, to identify the wolf ;-)
ReplyDeleteNero didn't work, even after trying out various tricks. Finally used MusicMatch to convert mp3s to wavs and then the default writer software to burn the cd. Worked like a charm. Now to buy spindles and start burning...
ReplyDeletethat's cool. but couple of cd-issues that u might like to know...if u already know this, well,
ReplyDelete1) the quality of the audio cds u make (from mp3s, i mean) is going to be pretty poor. at high volumes u will hear a lot of hiss. and in some cases, certain instruments (like the piano) sound godawful!
2) some audio cd players go bust playing written cds. has something to do with the angle of the lens. basically, mp3 cd players are more robust when it comes to playing written audio cds. so if your audio cd player is a top-of-the-range Sony system, be warned!!!! also, the cd player may sometimes refuse to recognise it as an audio cd.
3) for BEST results, with regards to both cd-shelf life and playability by audio cd players, write at 1x or 2x speeds.
Thanks for the tips. I tried the cd I burnt on both my home system and in the car..no problems so far...
ReplyDeleteWHy don't you try Musicmatch? There might be some compromise on quality..
ReplyDeleteGuess who!??
ReplyDeleteBobby (pallu pariyan)

Aliya, neeyo ! Wow..how did you reach here ? Great to hear from you. Drop me a mail... madhavn AT netscape DOT net. Where are you ?
ReplyDeleteI gave up on Nero because it kept telling me a Win-APSI file ?.? was missing. I searched for that file high and low, in vain. Gave up and went to MusicMatch.
ReplyDeleteCoolgoose looks good, thanks for the link
Aliyooo, i can send you the winasp, if you want. which OS are you playing with? mail to varghesejp attu yahooo kuthu co kuthu jp (for the sake of spammers, varghesejp@yahoo.co.jp hehehe yoooohooooo)
ReplyDeleteNothing can beat Nero. I have to say.
If you are using the latest version of Nero, you wont need it (winasp).
And bear in mind, every conversion leads to loss of quality
Loved your post on 80's
