Two Questions

  1. Should I buy an internal or an external modem ?

  2. Whats a good price for a 56kbps modem ?

No, I do not get broadband through cable in my locality.

  1. Always use an external modem - far better, and you can use it in linux too.

You can get one for a couple of thousand easily.

  3. External modems are relatively safer and you can always see them too.

  6. Wogay, thanks. I don't care too much about whether it will work on Linux or not, but I'll go with an external one since that seems to be the popular vote.

  7. *sigh* It wasn't, obviously. But I understand. It's the beatzo effect, isn't it?

  8. internal 56k modem=350-400 INR
external 56k modem=1000-2000 INR depending on brand/make/specs and config.
If Linux is not a concern, then an internal one makes sense. Its dialup, not much will change if you have either.
