Leh is unbelievable! Sad that you missed out on Pangong. Its breath taking. We lived in a guest house right below Shanti Stupa. Place called Oriental Guest House. Infact am helping the guy there build a small cyber cafe. Firangs pay 2 bucks a min for Internet access. What a business model, eh?
Oooh. I wanna go check out Leh too. Didn't you have any cross-border issues etc to deal with? I attended this lecture by this Buddhist monk from China who lived a significant portion of his live in Tibet/Bhutan/India/Nepal etc. and he talked a lot about how Leh was cool, and such ...
When/where is your next vacation planned?
That was an excellent write-up (I previously read it when you posted it on your LJ too). You should write more travel/picture-logues!
Leh is close to the border, but there weren't any Naxal/terrorist issues at all. The place was affected during the Kargil war, but that was about it.
How people get into marriage ? I can't speak for others but I got into marriage since I wanted to be with Sindha all through my life. Didn't feel brave enough - and probably didn't want - to take the living together approach, so got married !
Kids - well, neither of us were very keen on kids and kept postponing the decision. But since Sindha finished her MD and, to use a cliche, her biological clock was ticking away, we went ahead.
Is everyone kosher with this less fruitful lifestyle ? Well, sometimes you do get a bit wisftful and yearn for the good old days. On the other hand, you walk in late one evening and the kid just jumps into your arms, grinning like a maniac and oh-so-thrilled to see you...sometimes it's worth it and more.

Tough to take a vacation with the kid. Might go somewhere close by for a quick break during Easter, haven't decided anything yet.
That was an excellent write-up
Thanks !
Wow. Has it been two years already?
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading about your Leh trip albeit 2 years later. I am really glad India is a country of such geographical extremities ;)
