My gift voucher collection had increased to a nice, usable size by last Friday. Armed with that, Sindha and I went shopping. This is what I picked up from the land of movies and books:

The African Queen Evil Dead

  10. Ah, for a moment, I thought there was a movie "Family Matters" out. A quick IMdB search led me to, of all things, a sitcom! I then saw the "movies and books" part of your post...

The three books I have really loved for their quality of prose and their 'feel-good factor'(in descending order of preference) are The Remains of the Day by Ishiguro, An Equal Music by Seth and Such A Long Journey by Mistry. I saw the movie of the Ishiguro novel and the Mistry novel, and they in no way matched the books themselves. For a moment, I worried about Family Matters too...

  13. Yeah, I guess I should have put in a separator there.

The Remains of the Day is one of my favorite books, for exactly the same reasons you mention. Have you read The Unconsoled? It's not in the same vein, but I found it pretty interesting too.

  22. Family Matters - yikes!! The book is so darn long. Didn't find it too inspiring. Put it down after a chapter or two. "American Pie" - now we are talkin' :)
