I am thinking of buying a smart phone (phone + PDA) next month when I visit San Jose. What are the options available? What should I look out for? What I want in the phone:
- GSM, tri-band
- Sync with my mail, address book, appointments, etc
- Camera
- Good display
- Small buttons are not a problem
- Wi-fi would be good
- Bluetooth would be good
And of course, the cheapest possible option. The Audiovox I read about sounded too good to be true, and it was. It doesn't have tri-band support. The Sony Ericsson P900 is a dream, but so is the price.
Suggestions?
How about i-mate?
ReplyDeleteyeah the price is kinda overkill, but if you can get it somewhere in US/Singapore, that should be worth it. Try either the Handspring Treo 650 or the Sony Ericsson P910. I don't know about the tri-band capability of either of this.
ReplyDeleteA Handspring Treo is a good idea except that the battery is inbuilt into the phone. Battery dies, phone dies. There's another phone called O2 I think. Have seen a few people use it. But I think they don't have support in India
ReplyDeletejust get off one secretary machcha!
ReplyDeletethat will take care of the handspring, the I mate and even the eye candy.

BlackBerry
ReplyDeleteMost cell phone/PDAs which would synch with your PC would use either USB,Bluetooth,IR and/or Firewire(IEEE 1394). USB and Firwire being competing technologies am not sure if you can get all 4 on the same device. Provided the other params like memory space, display features etc also fall into place automatically, the 4 interfaces are what you should be looking for in terms of communicating with any of the other devices around you.
ReplyDeleteImate is a good buy like jay suggested...dont know your budget though:)
Will take a look, mate. Think it's outside my budget, though. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The P910 has tri-band.
ReplyDeleteO2 was recently launched in India. Costs a bomb out here, but will check out the prices in the US/Singapore. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha. Takes care of a laptop too, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get that through my company, boss willing. Lots of people in the States use it. I'm not going to use it much for email, though. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Looks a little too advanced, but will check it out.
ReplyDeleteI see that a lot with travelers. Are you here now? Got your new phone?
ReplyDeleteNo, I intend to be there on the 25th of Jan, returning on the 30th, if everything goes per plan.
ReplyDeleteNo, I did not get a new phone. Plan to look around online.
