I think I am becoming soft in my old age. I've liked all the three movies I've seen on screen recently - Rajamanikyam, King Kong and now Rang De Basanti.
Can you throw in a review for Rajamanikyam here, please?

I wanna watch some decent mallu movies but don't have access to any place that has those, right now. If ever I end up in a more desi-friendly part of the world, I'll remember to ping you for recommendations ;-)
On an aside, have you watched this tamil movie called Autograph ? If not, I think you should.
Oh, Rajamanikyam is not a good mallu movie by any stretch of the imagination. I liked it because it has Mammootty playing a character who talks in the 'purest' Trivandrum dialect possible, a first for Mal movies. It's more of a dappankoothu movie, if you know what I mean.
Slickly made, tight script, good characters, interesting story idea, good use of songs, decent photography and passable acting. Has plenty of flaws, but I found it quite enjoyable.
King Kong (the new version) was the totally awesome monster movue ever! It had its heart in the right place, and the effects were so mind-blowing. I want to watch it all over again!!
It's not a super fantastic movie or anything — It's just "different" in the way that it is not yet another stereotypical kollywood movie ... I guess somewhat like how Rang De Basanti isn't a regular bollywood movie

>Rang De Basanti.
ReplyDeleteAh, finally, someone who can satisfy why curiosity. Why did de basanti ring?
IMO, the director was trying to cram too much into RDB. Nothing that some nifty editing couldn't resolve...

ReplyDeleteAnd no, I haven't watched Autograph yet. Have heard a lot about it though.

ReplyDeleteI didn't really get that feeling, but yeah, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteProbably just come full circle.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised about the King Kong comment too actually.

ReplyDeletePS: I wish I could scream like that
Absolutely.
ReplyDeleteYou should post a review at your movie review site. It’s been a long time…:)
ReplyDeleteOh, that's not really a movie review site. I just use it to track the movies I've seen. Thanks for reading, though.
ReplyDeleteOh, I liked it too and even posted to the effect.
ReplyDeleteI was just surprised when madhav said he did. It's not exactly like an opinion ventured by one of us lesser mortals now, is it? ;)
I thought the editing was super in RDB.
ReplyDeleteThat's rich, from someone calling himself Übermensch ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, but that was quite a while back.
ReplyDeleteSeems like day before yesterday, though.
ReplyDeleteOh, those were the yester days.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you left me that comment. ;)

Anyways, I have the movie for you now, enjoy!
