Redux

Off to Manipal again.

The week went by pretty fast, all things considered. Finished Philip Pullman's Northern Lights. Darn good at the end. Placed an order with Fabmartfor the second in the trilogy, The Subtle Knife.

Thought - If I had been in the US with i2, I would have been asked to return to India. On the whole, I think I'm better off where I am.

Query - Should I start jogging again ?

Problem - There are no tickets available to Kerala. No seats on buses, none on trains. And no, I don't want to fly down.

Opportunity - If anyone wants to drive me down to Trivandrum, here's your chance !

  1. What do you think of the Fabmart online shopping experience?

  2. Not very much, I'm afraid. I liked them initially when they opened, maybe due to the TINA factor. Now they appear a bit shoddy. This book I ordered, for instance - I got a mail today saying that the book is not in stock and they are trying very hard to get it, etc...I'm not amused. ;-)

  4. Er, what's TINA? :-/

Want examples? Search for a book that's likely to return many results. Say... "management". Watch the search results. Do you see the price of the books anywhere? Often, different publishers have different prices. How about seeing book details? Unlike almost every site with half a brain, they don't hyperlink the book title to the details. Instead, it's tucked away in the bottom right corner. Bah!

And here's an example of why you shouldn't let programmers decide the user experience. Go to Fabmart's music store. Search for something that doesn't exist, say... "Britny" (intentional spelling mistake). Look at the error - "No matches found for your search string". Only a programmer would assume that the average person knows what a "string" is. :(
To many people, a string is something you use to tie stuff.

How many people do you think they're annoying by doing this, you think?

I could post a complete list of Fabmart errors, but I'll stop here.

    (shameless self-promotion)
    Does i2 have a usability/user experience department? ;)
